About Me
I am a stay at home mom, and have two wonderful children. When my oldest was young I took her to a nursing home to see if we could visit with a resident. We found someone and went every week or two to visit. It was during these visits that I came up with a letter writing campaign for residents. This project, called A Friendly Word, was a way for people didn't have time to come into a facility to still donate their time to residents. I have always loved getting mail, and I figured residents would too. At the pique, we had 500 volunteers writing to people all over the country. It got to be such a huge task, I realized I needed help. I looked and looked for someone to help, but no one was interested. I kept on until we moved across country, and I regretfully had to shut down. After we were settled I got involved with Never Too Late, an organization that grants wishes to people in nursing homes. I raised $2,000 for them to help grant wishes. It was being involved in these experiences that I realized the need for Activity Directors to have a place to go for fresh ideas. I hope you enjoy the site, and can use some of the ideas for your facility.
